Product Manager

Senior Product Manager – Yammer (San Francisco, London, or Redmond)

Join a tight-knit team, backed by the power and resources of Microsoft, and change the way people work everywhere.

Work can be hard. For many people, the daily workday is isolating, hierarchical, and slow. But it doesn’t have to be. At Yammer, we’re building a consumer-inspired product that helps people — whether at a desk or on their feet — change their workdays, their companies, and their lives for the better.

Who We Are

Our product management team is the driving force behind building an opinionated freemium product as part of the Microsoft suite. At Yammer, you’ll face some of the hardest and most exciting challenges of your career as we disrupt company cultures all over the world with our crusade to end siloed, disconnected, cloistered work environments forever. We’ve been tasked with leading the social experience for Office 365 (that’s hundreds of millions of users!), helping Microsoft optimize and simplify user experiences.

How We Do It

We test everything (including our own instincts and assumptions), build iteratively, and ship quickly. You’ll partner with our analytics team on every project to help weigh crucial decisions, quantify tradeoffs, and optimize everything for end-users. Meanwhile, you’ll work with a team of interaction and visual designers, user researchers, and copywriters to help you create the user experience you need to meet our goal. You’ll team up with engineers across platforms (web, iOS, Android, etc.) to create the best products imaginable as you work on many projects across a multitude of specialties, ship frequently, and learn every time you do.

What We Want

To be a PM at Yammer, you’ll need to be a really, really ridiculously good problem solver. We’re solving problems that are slowing billions of people down in their everyday jobs, and we’re doing it from the ground up. You’ll need enough user empathy to solve those problems for all kinds of employees, and enough product instincts to change their behavior just by using our product. You’ll need to think analytically, understand how your features are impacting users, and make smart tradeoffs that roll up to our goals of transparency and openness.

Who You Are

This is what you’ll be doing:

•Work with product, design, analytics, and engineering teams to determine product strategy and prioritize feature projects
•Manage the product development process from conception through design, build, release, analysis, and iteration
•Analyze data to optimize performance and focus on high-potential product areas

This is what you’ll need:

•Experience managing web or mobile products
•Product and analytics smarts – great instincts on how to make the right tradeoffs based on quant and qual data
•UX chops – you’ll have access to a large UX team, but you should be able to instantly infer a good user experience from a painful (or pointless) one
•Desire to test your assumptions and hypothesis and the ability to extract valuable learnings from it
•Ability to communicate with and motivate a cross-functional team, as well as strong negotiation skills – you should be able to defend your opinions and decisions to everyone that works with you without being a jerk. We hire product-minded engineers and designers, so negotiation should energize you, not sap your passion for a project.
•Comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-paced, responsive environment
•CS or technical background a plus!
