Senior Product Manager

The Senior Product Manager (Mobile Apps) is responsible for leading a cross-functional team of Designers, Engineers, and Analysts to build and maintain best-in-class iOS and Android applications for our customers. You will be responsible for the development of interactive, personalized, and delightful app experiences that are highly aligned to the CarMax brand and vision.  Using dual-track discovery techniques, you will identify features that empower customers to self-serve.  You’ll lead the team to iteratively deliver those features, measuring impact and continuously improving them.   As the Apps leader, you will partner closely with technology platform teams, Operations, Marketing, Product, and. Legal.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership and Vision
Develop and manage the product roadmap for the apps; align product improvements to support company vision, goals and opportunities
Own the in-market experience:  leverage your team resources to ensure the apps are reliable and perform in a live environment
Maintain and grow a deep knowledge of the CarMax business, the automotive/retail industries, and mobile app trends and patterns
Ensure your team is focused on driving KPIs and OKRs
Develop compelling presentations and prototypes to communicate your product vision to Senior Executives
Develop collaborative relationships with partners and stakeholders, with sensitivity towards their needs and constraints
Think bigger than your product and team by finding appropriate opportunities to partner with other teams to take on bigger product objectives

Product Discovery
Serve as the ultimate voice of the App customer within the Product organization. Understand customer pains and build empathy with your users through interviews, observations, surveys, persona development, and other forms of customer research
Develop an opportunity backlog as a means to ideate and evaluate solutions to customer needs
Leverage lean discovery and prototyping techniques to rapidly get feedback on envisioned solutions
Ensure product-market fit via lean, in-market, measurable tests
Serve as an interface with stakeholders to obtain product input and ensure awareness and comfort with plans
Conduct competitor analyses and market research to understand the competitive landscape
Work closely with CarMax legal teams to ensure your solutions are compliant with local and national regulations

Product Delivery
Lead a cross-functional team of engineers, designers, data scientists, and business owners to drive the launch of a digital product. Make thoughtful decisions on the fly, constantly clearing roadblocks to getting your product live and scaled
Build, manage, and prioritize the team’s product backlog.
Monitor performance and metrics; identify and drive technical and business optimization opportunities
Ensure that Associates impacted by your product changes have the appropriate level of awareness, knowledge, buy-in and training for product changes and related processes
Determine appropriate delivery techniques for each feature, considering level of effort, potential for delight, and need to collaborate with partner teams
Manage 3rd party vendor relationships and recognize build/rent/buy tradeoffs

Product Activism
Play an active role in both internal and external Product Management, UX, and/or Engineering communities
Create and enhance guidelines, policies, practices and procedures to drive improvements to internal product management and development processes

University degree required, engineering or master’s degree are nice-to-haves
