FutureLearn is a social learning network that offers a diverse selection of free, high quality online courses from over 100 of the world’s leading universities and other outstanding cultural institutions such as the British Museum, the BFI, the BBC and the British Council. Since we launched at the end of 2013, over 5 million learners have registered from all over the world.

FutureLearn’s vision is to give everyone, everywhere access to learning so that they’re able to solve both personal and world challenges. FutureLearn is an independent commercial company, wholly owned by the UK’s Open University.

FutureLearn is expanding its offer to deliver online degrees and enhance the experience of students learning on campus using FutureLearn.

To support these new developments, we are looking for an ace Product Manager to lead a team that works closely with our most engaged university partners. Our goal is to create scalable solutions that deliver a great learning experience to students and provides the necessary tools to allow FutureLearn to be an integral part of the university’s core business.

You will report to the Chief Product Officer, work closely with other product managers and join a brilliant and growing multidisciplinary team of product managers, marketers, developers, designers, user researchers, partnership managers and data scientists.

The Product Manager’s responsibilities:

  • Inspire and empower a cross-functional team to ship the right things to our learners and partners by communicating a vision, building consensus and facilitating collaborative team work
  • Own the product roadmap for delivering online degrees and use of FutureLearn on campus
  • Act as the product owner from discovery and understanding phases, through to delivery and continued improvement
  • Work hands-on every day with a cross-functional team of designers, developers and researchers, look after the team’s backlog and facilitate prioritisation
  • Work with our in-house experts to gather and share insights and learning from competitor analysis, user research and quantitative and qualitative data about learners and partners behaviour
  • Identify opportunities that will make FutureLearn more useful to our university partners and help them to embed FutureLearn more deeply in their core business
  • Work closely with a small number of university partners and their nominated stakeholders in order to develop and deliver propositions that meet their requirements and allows FutureLearn to develop scalable, repeatable and delightful solutions
  • Support business development and help develop relationships with partners that are interested in working with us to expand our offer in this exciting new area
  • Work with the product management team to help evolve and improve our delivery process, methodology and product management practices at FutureLearn
  • Help ensure that FutureLearn provides the most flexible, effective and enjoyable online learning through the delivery and improvement of product features

About you

Ideally, you will have demonstrable experience of:

  • Working on digital services in a product management capacity
  • Developing consumer web products and/or educational services
  • Directly working with developers, designers and user researchers
  • Day-to-day, hands-on product ownership of project teams
  • Working closely with clients or stakeholders to develop new products
  • Prioritisation of product features and producing product roadmaps
  • Working collaboratively with cross-functional agile teams
  • Storytelling and communicating ideas, numbers and vision
