Purpose of the role:
The PM – Front Office will be responsible for defining the Front Office (devices and associated software) devices used in Vix automated fare collection (AFC) systems. This role will initially review the current portfolio of devices and define a consolidated roadmap of devices as part of the new unified product suite. As part of this, a review of buy/build/partner will be conducted. This role will also work closely with the supply chain to ensure timely and cost effective procurement. As an area that is and will evolve rapidly, staying across innovation and feed this into our portfolio will be key. In doing this the role must lead in ensuring that the business is clear on and maintains clear differentiation with our front end devices. Another key requirement will be to gather the in service performance of devices and feed the associated learnings into the roadmap.
Ultimately the goal is to enable the business to provide our customers with industry leading devices and user experience. Doing this, while ensuring the devices provide a very strong revenue and profit stream for the business.
Key Capabilities:
Proven success in product managing front end devices in a similar environment
- Operating environment. The operating environment for our devices, particularly rail, is highly regulated and has an impact of the design of the devices and selection of components. The devices are required to be certified against environmental standards.
- Device lifecycle. Many of contracts stipulate that we need to be able to supply customers with spares and complete devices for 10-15 years from the start of operations.
- Low Volume. Typically 10-20K devices/year to customers across the entire device portfolio.
- Point of Interaction. In most cases the users (passengers) must be able to use the devices with little or no instruction.
3+ years of product management experience
Knowledgeable in technology and standards – payments and or transit in particular
Computer Science or Engineering degree or work experience.
Very strong communication and influencing skills required
Experience in driving products into market successfully a plus
Strong analytical skills
Track record of achieving quantitative targets
Experience in incorporating user experience inisights into product definition a strong plus
