Head of Product Management

Position Function:

The Head of Product Management will establish and lead a global product management team of Product Managers and Product Owners. This is a transformational role as the company moves from a project to a product focus. This role is key in establishing and setting the standards for product management in Vix. This will require someone who can map out a clear portfolio strategy aligned to the overall Vix business strategy. The Vix portfolio of products and solutions is principally in the areas of Automated Fare Collection (AFC) and Real Time Passenger Information (RTPI). These solutions have been developed to address specific local markets and been driven by the needs of specific customer projects. This role will be tasked with ensuring the portfolio is fit for the global market, enabling Vix to achieve far greater scale. Building a global product management team requires establishing a standard product management approach across all products. Part of this is establishing clear targets and ongoing reviews of each product’s performance. This will include a clear plan and position for each product within the Vix portfolio. This role will require a clear focus on the market and Vix business strategy in defining product plans. Another key aspect of this role will be to developing a very strong team with clear roles and responsibilities. As important is driving the overall end to end process of defining and delivering products, working closely with peers across the business.  As a competitive but fragmented market this role requires someone who can define a product strategy that secures Vix a market leading positions in its core markets.

This role will also take a lead in engaging with key customers and help to shape their thinking about transit systems. This will be based on ensuring Vix portfolio is clearly differentiated from its competitors

Key Responsibilities:

Defining and implementing product management processes

  • Team leadership of team of 11 product manager and product owner
  • Defining and delivering on products’ performance targets within a portfolio frameworks
  • Thought leadership within Vix on products and product management and in the industry on solutions
  • Engaging with and influencing key customers
  • Ensuring clear understanding of competitors strategies and that Vix has clear differentiation
  • Reporting on key competitor and industry trends to the executive and wider leadership team on a regular basis

Skills and Qualifications:

Essential

  • Computer Science / Engineering / Business degree or work experience
  • Strong communication skills – orally and written
  • Excellent and proven stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills at the senior level internally and also with customers

Desirable

  • MBA
  • Product management qualification
  • Payments or security qualifications

Knowledge and Experience:

Essential

  • Proven success in leading an enterprise or B2B technology product management team
  • Ability to form and drive high performance teams to continuous improvement
  • Experience in driving products into market successfully a plus
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Track record of achieving quantitative targets
  • Seven years plus as a product manager
  • Experience in taking products through full lifecycle, including withdrawal
  • Proven ability to deliver on ambitious product targets – financially as well functionally

Desirable

  • Experience in incorporating user experience insights into product definition a strong plus
  • Knowledgeable in technology and standards – payments and or transit in particular
  • Knowledge of product management of hardware and software products
  • Success in leading transformation of a product portfolio
  • Experience as a vendor in government or government funded markets
