Planes is a young digital product studio, started by two friends who liked making great products together. As we grow that will always be our essence – to work on products we believe in with people we enjoy every day.
Our background is in startups, not agencies. We prefer shipping code, listening to users and iterating quickly rather than long lunches, ‘expert’ reports and death by powerpoint. This approach has lead us to work with all sorts of people, from international fin-tech providers to startups, building products that their users love.
A small and nimble team, we work collaboratively to produce work that we are proud of and our clients love. We are made up of designers, engineers and product lovers who are all entrepreneurs by nature.
What we’re looking for 💫
We are looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our growing team, who will be responsible for leading the design effort for new projects. As part of a small team, you will work on projects end-to-end; from the pitching and project planning process, through to handoff of high fidelity designs. Day to day you’ll find yourself:
– Collaborating with clients, developers, and other members of Planes to find solutions to problems.
– Running user interviews to uncover insights
– Wireframing and mapping out user journeys
– Detail-design ready for development handoff
– Facilitating design workshops
– Designing and building prototypes
– Contributing to pitches and creating project delivery plans
– Coaching and reviewing work of more junior designers
– You have proven experience in creating great UX and UI designs using design systems
– Proficient with Figma and prototyping tools
– You have experience in leading product teams in an agile environment
– You’ve spent time leading projects from conception through to delivery
– You’re comfortable with client stakeholders
– You enjoy coaching and mentoring more junior designers
– Excited by developing a practice as well as leading the growth of it
– New business, from proposal writing to pitching all the way to leading early stage workshops.
– Leading the maintenance and improvement of the design function, scoping out new tools and processes

We also will have a short design challenge for you to complete. The design challenge is an actual design problem that Planes worked on; so the purpose of the design challenge is to give you an idea of the sort of problems you might be tackling, and to give us some insight into your personal style as a designer.
In light of COVID
Much like the rest of the world, we have been a fully remote team the last several months. While we’re all pining to get back into the office, we’ve been working effectively while remote.
We’re planning to get back into the office as soon as we are comfortable from a health and safety perspective, but there will be no requirement for anyone in the team to be back in the office until they also personally comfortable doing so.
