Product Manager, Apps

Trinity Mirror is looking for a product manager to oversee our iOS and Android apps. The successful applicant will be responsible for audience and revenue growth while optimising our app frameworks to support a growing number of national, regional and specialist news apps. This is a rare opportunity to deliver content apps at scale rather than working on a single title.

Trinity Mirror’s digital portfolio comprises more than 50 news web sites, ranging from national titles such as The Mirror and large regionals such as The Manchester Evening News to smaller county, city and specialist titles. The larger titles have mobile apps on both iOS and Android and we plan to expand the portfolio with additional news apps and specialist sports apps.

Our mobile apps serve our most loyal users, providing a clean, simple interface that enables them to consume large volumes of content. These users are brand advocates who recommend our content socially or by word of mouth, so the focus is on a frictionless experience that immerses users in the articles, galleries and videos published by our titles.

The app framework is designed to allow easy rebranding and repopulation with content to create new products. We continue to evolve our build, test, release and submission processes so our growing app portfolio can be maintained and updated efficiently.

The app development team is based in Canary Wharf, but the role may also involve some travel to our regional offices.

Principal responsibilities

The apps product manager defines the vision, strategy and roadmap for our mobile apps to deliver growth in audience and revenue. They are in constant communication with business stakeholders to ensure organisational alignment and encourage digital thinking. They collaborate with the apps designer and iOS, Android and back-end engineers to define, build, test, deliver and optimise new functionality in a lean, data-informed delivery team.

The apps are part of a broader product ecosystem and the apps product manager also works closely with other product managers to ensure consistent branding and content experiences and cross-promote appropriate products to build user loyalty.
