The ideal candidate has 3-5 years of experience helping shepherd new products from idea to market. They will have experience with a few different flavors of Agile (our current process is Scrum-like), and will have some opinions on what does and does not work about different approaches. It is critical that they have prior experience optimizing a team’s process to improve it over time and more effectively and predictably deliver shipped product.
Early work for this position will primarily be leading a current project team on a complicated client project as we improve our process and our ability to deliver consistently good work. Over time this work will evolve to include research and discovery on early products and features, exploring ways to add value to our clients’ businesses, and teaching other team members foundational skills in product management. Our short-term needs are primarily tactical (getting things done) but we’re looking for someone who can evolve into a strategic asset and is interested in leadership in the company.

Skills
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
- Ability to handle and organize competing priorities from multiple stakeholders.
- Experience with common PM software such as Trello or Jira, and an opinion on what software would be best for us once you’ve heard about our problems and process.
- An understanding of the typical processes that go into designing and developing software and enough technical knowledge to communicate well with developers and our clients’ senior technical leads.
- A strong desire to give and receive feedback and help improve process.
Responsibilities
- Planning and execution of software projects, from simple MVP web apps up to complicated multi-platform products where our team is integrating with another.
- Carrying out research and discovery activities and folding new information back into the team’s execution.
- Teaching members of our team to execute on foundational product management skills such as writing user stories and estimating/planning.
- Helping define and improve the company’s product management process.
- Set and manage client expectations as projects progress, especially around estimated deadlines.
- Holding regular sprint retrospectives to help the team learn and improve their velocity and the quality of their delivery.
Bonus Skills
- Ability to wireframe, preferably with Sketch and InVision (but we’re open to other tools if you can explain why you prefer them).
- Sales/business development experience.
