Product Manager (OS Maps Mobile)

Full-Time Flexible Closes: 2021-07-26

Our busy Propositions and Innovation team is looking for people to help inspire the organisation and our customers, to go ‘somewhere new’, by building a portfolio of next generation services.

Join us as we transform OS, deliver commercial growth and empower our customers to meet their goals. Most of all, you’ll play a critical role in helping OS to realise its vision: to be recognised as world leaders in geospatial services; creating location insight for positive impact.

About the role

This is a unique opportunity to work on Ordnance Survey’s flagship digital consumer product: OS Maps. If you are an experienced product manager with a passion for the outdoors, then this might well be your perfect job. Working as an internal start-up, you will play a key role in OS Maps’ future success, taking the mobile side of the product to the next level.

With OS Maps, our aim is to make it easy for everyone to find everything they need to enjoy getting outside. As the Product Manager for OS Maps Mobile, you will lead the discovery process to find the best mobile solutions to customer and business problems and then ensure that those solutions are delivered effectively.

You’ll be working very closely with product designers, engineers and the lead product manager for OS Maps to make sure we build solutions that are valuable to our users, but also viable for the business. You will be responsible for the iOS and Android apps and their seven-figure user base.

OS Maps has already experienced huge success in Great Britain – we’re proud to have received over a dozen awards including best app at the Yahoo Sports Technology Awards, best digital product from the UK Outdoor Industry Association and best online service at The Singletrack Reader Awards. We’ve also been featured on the App Store and often can be seen in the national press.

To help us continue this success, we’re growing the team, and you’ll join at an exciting phase in OS Maps’ journey: as we take the product to a global audience.

You will make sure that the development of the mobile-based aspects of OS Maps is always rooted in customer need and backed up by data. You build up a deep knowledge of our users, data about how those users engage with our products, industry trends (both mobile development and the outdoor industry), and the competitive landscape.

This is a great chance to leave your mark on the product, and genuinely make a difference by helping a new audience to get outside more often. You will be empowered to work with designers and developers to figure out the best solutions to the problems that need to be solved, and then accountable for the results.

What we’re looking for

Demonstrated understanding of the techniques and methods of modern product discovery and product delivery.
Experience in A/B testing, and optimisation of funnels.
Good working knowledge of mobile app development as well as the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
3+ years as a product manager (or equivalent experience as a product designer, engineer, data analyst, data scientist, or user researcher).
A passion for outdoor activity and adventures coupled with a desire to really make a difference.
Demonstrated ability to figure out solutions to hard problems with many constraints, using sound judgement to assess risks.
Excellent data-driven decision making, using strong data interpretation and analytical skills.
Proven ability to engage with engineers, designers, and other stakeholders in a constructive and collaborative relationship.
Good working knowledge of outdoor consumer products and market.
Experience or good knowledge of agile working.
