Do you have proven experience of developing products to take to market, possibly in a fundraising environment, plus great leadership skills and a real appetite for innovation? Then join Shelter as a Senior Innovation Lead and you could soon be playing a key role within our Product Development & Innovation team.
About Shelter
A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.
At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.
We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.
About the team
Part of a thriving Income Generation directorate, the Product Development & Innovation (PDI) team was set up recently to answer the need for product development and innovation support and work on some exciting cross-organisational projects. We fully embrace Shelter’s anti-racism agenda and want to ensure our products better reflect this in the future, so we are putting Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (ED&I) at the forefront of all new product development and innovation. So, if you want to join a team that’s already produced some award-winning fundraising and engagement products such as Level Up (Gaming) Bookclub or Homerun and help transform a product portfolio covering events, sports, music and entertainment, corporate engagement and anti-racism and ED&I, here’s your chance.
About the role
Working closely with the Head of PDI, your challenge will be to help develop a long-term innovation strategy that seeks to identify major opportunities to diversify our income streams that fall outside of the scope of our existing fundraising areas. A great opportunity to transform the way we generate revenue, we’ll rely on you to look both across and outside of Shelter to identify emerging trends and potential opportunities. Along the way, you’ll need to conduct thorough risk and feasibility assessments to inform recommendations and detailed business plans and analyse new markets too. Working as a business partner with leadership colleagues, developing a product innovation framework, playing your part in budget management and building relationships with key partners – all are aspects of this high-profile role.
We are happy to talk about flexible working, personal growth, and to promote a workplace where you can be yourself and achieve success based only on your merit.
About you
A natural born leader who knows how to manage and motivate people, rein them back in and be realistic about products and how they will work, you’re strong on research and insight and have a real flair for innovation. You’re also comfortable working within a fast-paced and rapidly changing matrix management environment where horizon scanning and keeping ahead of emerging trends is the norm. You’re diplomatic yet assertive too, with good influencing and negotiating skills and a highly collaborative and flexible approach. What’s more, you have a growth mindset, a proven ability to lead and embed change, a focus on continual improvement, and a willingness to take calculated risks when appropriate.
Benefits
We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.
Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
