Product Manager – BOT Systems

The team…

Retrieval Robotics is a cutting edge team of engineers, product managers and project managers who develop Ocado’s own hardware and software solutions to the Ocado Smart Platform (OSP). The ‘Bot’ is the poster child for OSP and the backbone product for this team. The main purpose of the Product Manager (PM) role is to work directly with our development teams to envision the future of our Bot, maintaining the position of OSP as a market leader in its field.

What I will be doing…

Product works at the intersection of user experience, business and technology. In the context of the Bot, this demands a:

  • Deep understanding of user experience at the touch points with the Bot
  • Knowledge of how the Bot contributes to the direction of Ocado Technology growth and OSP client growth
  • Technical competence in order to understand the complex OSP system and how the bot product direction affects its system interfaces

Notably, you, as a product manager, will work side-by-side with Engineering being jointly accountable for the delivery of your products. As such, you must be comfortable allowing the engineering teams to come up with the solutions whilst being their knowledge base and proxy for the business and user. You will be required to build up and maintain a healthy level of trust and collaboration with Engineering, respecting the boundaries of your individual roles and responsibilities

We’d love to hear from you if you have…

  • Demonstrable experience of working in an agile environment, ideally as a Product Owner, Product Manager or a similar role
  • A strong talent in communication – consistently clear and compelling in verbal, visual and written form
  • Proven ability to plan, manage, track and deliver on commitments
  • Ability to work in a team effectively and work autonomously as appropriate
  • An analytical mind set – ability to estimate the value of features or changes, performing cost-benefit analysis and constructing business cases
  • Strong technical skills (and in the absence of a technical background, proven ability to familiarise yourself quickly with a new technical field)
  • An understanding and appreciation for industrial automation development and design

It would be great but it’s not essential if you have…

  • Domain experience with automation or embedded systems
  • Previous experience launching hardware products in multiple territories
