The Role
The Product Principal at ustwo is key to ensuring that the work we do results in us shipping something that is commercially viable, meets key business objectives, has product/market fit and represents the optimal value we can possibly deliver in the time available. We work collaboratively with other disciplines (Design, Technology, Strategy, Delivery), adopting a style of product management that elevates the work of others and leaves space for creativity and flair.
The Product Principal role is a senior product role at ustwo, and our Product Principals are able to excel at individual contributor roles on our trickiest products, as well as management and leadership roles on our larger programmes and within the product team.
Business development: You are actively involved in the commercial success of our business through business development, client relationship building, proposal development and pitching. You proactively look to move our client relationships, product practice and studio forward.
Client work: You know how to use a range of product management principles and approaches. You can lead and motivate a cross-functional product team. You have the knowledge to shape all aspects of a product and service. You feel as confident in making tough decisions and prioritising work across UX, design and engineering as you do setting expectations, defining objectives and outcomes, and managing stakeholders. You know how to work with a range of specialists in multidisciplinary teams and how to supplement a client’s own product capability if required.You thrive in complex situations and are able to apply a varied set of tools and approaches to bring clarity and direction.
The ustwo studio: You are able to actively lead change which helps us improve process, approaches, and strategy for both the product team and the studio as a whole. You take a lead in growing our product team, and establishing the role further in the studio and beyond. You know how to implement best practice and share that with your colleagues. You play a key role in growing the studio as well as in your discipline.
Client relationship management: You balance project, people and practice with a commercial astuteness. You develop successful and close relationships with our clients and grow new business opportunities within existing and for new clients. You are responsible for delivering exceptional work that solves business and most importantly customer needs.
Responsibilities
As a successful Product Lead or Principal you will:
Work closely with client stakeholders to distil objectives and success metrics
Provide leadership to the cross-functional product team, setting out clear and executable product objectives to achieve the product vision
Champion customer needs by generating qualitative and quantitative insights through collaboration with design and strategy
Gain a deep understanding of business needs and be able to set validation strategies to inform direction, and ultimately to mitigate risk
Use data and analytics to experiment, test and to ultimately drive growth for the product
Define processes and product improvements for continually learning from and iteratively improve the user experience
Build, prioritize, and maintain the feature backlog for the product
Work with your cross functional product team team to deliver features, experiments, and optimisations efficiently in an agile development environment
Successful Product Principals are also expected to:
Tackle our most challenging product briefs by showing a deep understanding of the product discipline and a high level of skill in solving product problems.
Lead clients through the process of transforming their businesses to be more product focused and outcome driven.
Take on product leadership roles on large scale programmes with multiple cross-functional product teams.
Mentor and grow other product people within ustwo.
Help the ustwo studio develop and improve our product thinking across all disciplines.
Your experience:
You are able to lead teams (including the client) of all levels and abilities, around getting the right product to market. You have experience in:
Leading teams and engaging stakeholders
You are comfortable leading teams of all levels and abilities in order to get the right product to market. You know how to define the right frameworks to prioritise and deliver – using an agile approach and your ability to engage stakeholders
Taking calculated risks
You have fostered an experimental, hypotheses-led approach to product and business challenges.
Working with research, data, analytics, optimisation
You enjoy finding actionable insights from qualitative and quantitative research, and are well-versed in mixed methodologies to drive growth for the product.
Focussing on value creation
Experienced at applying frameworks to organisational and business challenges and can clearly explain your rationale for the methods used.
Creating clear roadmaps for delivery
You can capture and translate user needs into deliverables, how to define the minimum viable product and make decisions about priorities. You can write user stories and acceptance criteria.
Storytelling and influencing
You’re able to explain decisions as well as articulate concepts and ideas in a persuasive manner for our clients and our teams alike.
Driving agile methodologies
Together with the Delivery Coach you will drive the team using Agile methodologies to deliver the user and business value.
Qualifications:
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate the following. You might not be a 100% match – we’d still love to hear from you:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
5 years working on technology-powered products as either a product manager, product designer, engineer, data analyst, data scientist, or user researcher.
Experience in the development of a diverse range of digital products/services from end-to-end, scalable in size and complexity.
Demonstrated understanding of the techniques and methods of modern product discovery and product delivery.
Proven ability to engage with engineers, designers, and company leaders in a constructive and collaborative relationship.
Experience working in a creative agency, product agency or similar is a plus.
