Senior Software Product Manager

Full-Time Anywhere

Are you a product manager who wants to make a difference and help cure cancer? We are a lively team of software engineers, computational scientists, and product managers who are committed to agile development practices, excited about large-scale data engineering, and believe in accelerating science and improving lives through data technologies. Our tools and platforms are used by researchers across the globe, processing petabytes of data to advance science and medicine. We are crafting the creation of world-class, scalable cloud-based data resources and pipelines to process, store and share human health data on an unprecedented scale.

A critical part of our vision is making the world’s genomic data accessible to the global research community. The Broad Institute itself is a powerhouse of genomics data, and this role will be responsible for building a product that develops a data management strategy for data generated at the Broad Institute and data generated by collaborators around the world. In order to execute on this vision, we are looking for a talented and motivated product manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a highly collaborative, team-based setting and interacting with people at other institutions around the world. They will have good attention to detail and take pride in the software produced. They will be interested in learning about sequencing, genomics and the scientific work of the Broad Institute.

  • Engage with and survey scientists and clinicians, lab personnel, and other stakeholders to understand their needs. This also includes interfacing with GA4GH driver projects and connecting with the GA4GH community as a whole.

  • Collaborate effectively with engineering teams to formulate a roadmap for new and ongoing product development. Build and maintain the product backlog with the technical team. Continuously prioritize the work in the backlog to deliver the most significant value to our current and future users.

  • Develop a basic understanding of the complex regulatory environment surrounding health information in both a research and clinical setting; translate this understanding into product definition and scope.

  • Identify metrics for software products and work with development and operations teams to ensure that mechanisms are in place to collect them; iteratively refine software products according to these metrics.

  • Demonstrate, and continue to develop, leadership without authority in technical, design, business, and scientific environments.

  • Champion software products to the Broad community. Inspire development teams, collaborators, and stakeholders with concise, valuable, relevant product vision statements that target the most important user scenarios for Broad.
