We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer
We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our founding team, building the world’s first platform for flight-free holidays.

As our first product/UX hire you’ll be responsible for our end-to-end user experience. You’ll ensure our customers love their journeys with us from first discovering their perfect trip on our site right through to arriving home at the end of their holiday: your impact will be direct and visible. You’ll report directly to our founder and CEO, Cat Jones, and collaborate closely with our CTO, Rich Levy, and our wider tech, ops and marketing teams.

We help holidaymakers love their journeys
We’re taking on climate change by building the first tech platform for flight-free holidays. We help people experience the joy of journeying through lesser-known parts of the UK and Europe by train, boat and bus, and are proud to be a certified B Corporation.

Founded in March 2020, we’re backed by Innovate UK, and have raised £1.2M from incredible investors. Our organic growth has been significant and sustained since launch, mostly thanks to press, from the Times to the Guardian. Since January 2022, our first paid marketing investments and partnerships have seen revenues surge well beyond this organic base.

Role Responsibilities
Drive product strategy and design simple, intuitive experiences that our customers love
Own the end-to-end user journey and all aspects of design execution, from ideation, prototyping and user testing to final production
Partner with marketing, operations, and tech teams to create great tech products and user experiences
Balance quality standards with MVP testing strategies
What we’re looking for
Huge customer centricity
Significant product design experience within a digital environment (agency or in-house) for a tech/consumer brand
Sharp attention to detail and mastery over your craft, including visual design, interaction design, and prototyping
Experience designing and shipping impactful products at scale
Experience producing data-informed, measurably effective UX by leveraging customer insights, A/B testing and personalisation
An ability to bring simplicity to complex concepts for our customers
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
What would be great (but isn’t required)
Experience in a high growth startup
Experience designing and maintaining a cross-platform design system
Agile experience, working in sprints with backlogs and feature sets
What we offer
£65,000 – £75,000 p.a. (depending on experience) plus equity
Remote-first, flexible working with ~2 days/month in London
High specific laptop & tools
Annual ‘Byway Away’ days
Join a travel startup in 2022! Are you crazy?
Covid lockdowns saw a total shutdown of air travel, and opened people’s eyes to the environmental bounce-back possible when flights are grounded. At the same time, people have had to slow down and reconnect with their local areas as never before – and  the importance of supporting local businesses has become clearer than ever. Emerging from lockdown, sustainable, mindful and local travel experiences are surging, and Byway and the slow travel movement are at the centre of that growth.
