Technical Product Manager

Satchel products are used by 1,500 schools around the globe including half of all secondary schools in London. We’re rapidly expanding into other areas of education and are well on the way towards providing a powerful learning experience that helps students achieve their full potential.

 

Satchel is now looking for a Technical Product Manager to help define and deliver new product as part of Satchel’s expansion beyond Show My Homework into other areas of EdTech. Reporting to the Head of Product and acting as the principal interface between the Product and Engineering teams, the successful candidate will play an instrumental role in the delivery of the business roadmap.

 

Principal Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Head of Product and Engineers to translate customer and business requirements into technical deliverables.
  • Create stories, use cases and acceptance criteria
  • Using technical knowledge to help clarify work for the Engineering team.
  • Use your technical skills to communicate between Engineering and other departments, including Sales, Accounts, Support, and others.
  • Become an expert on quantitative and qualitative insights of your projects.
  • Collaborate with engineers and testers to ensure set tasks are delivered.
  • Support and motivate the Engineering teams with clear and achievable deliverables.
  • Define expected outcomes of the workstreams and make sure that the Engineering team fully understands the reasons behind the work.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies: daily stand-ups, planning meetings, retrospectives, operating where appropriate as a Scrum master to assist in the delivery of work
  • Balance business and technical objectives and translate these as clear priorities for the Engineering team.
  • Work closely with remote resource(s) and/or third parties as required to assist in the delivery of work.

 

Essential Skills and Experience

  • A technical BEng/BSc/BA degree in a computing or similar/related engineering discipline.
  • 1+ years of product management experience, preferably in a tech startup or small company.
  • 2+ years of experience working in an agile environment
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Able to communicate technical concepts in a lucid, structured fashion to colleagues.
  • Demonstrable experience of working closely with Engineering teams.
  • An ability to communicate product requirements in a clear, structured fashion to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Basic familiarity with Web technologies and how they can be exploited to build innovative products.

 

Desirable Skills

  • ScrumMaster training a plus
  • Exposure in databases and data modelling
  • An appreciation of mobile applications, their relationship with web applications and how we can leverage mobile applications to the benefit of customers
