Do you have experience of developing products to take to market, an interest in emerging tech and the confidence to sell its potential to stakeholders? Then join Shelter as Head of Product Development and Innovation and you could soon be playing a leading role at the heart of our Income Generation Directorate’s Product Development & Innovation team.
About Shelter
A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.
At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.
We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.
About the team
Part of a thriving Income Generation Directorate, our Product Development & Innovation team sits within Planning & Improvement, a business enablement function that acts as the glue that binds together all income generation appeals, activities and products. As well as growing current products and developing new user centric ones to take to market, the team also helps to enable and accelerate the delivery of an ambitious Income Generation strategic plan.
About the role
As the Head of the team, you’ll lead on the creation, implementation and continual improvement of an audience-led product development framework that can support the delivery of our goal to ‘raise more money through strategically aligned income generating activity’. Developing a pipeline of products and opportunities to attract and engage supporters and drive significant income growth will be just one of the challenges you’ll face. Acting as strategic lead for a long-term innovation strategy aimed at identifying major opportunities to diversify our income streams will be another. And, when it comes to managing and developing a team or co-creating a KPI and review framework that enables a ‘fail-fast’ and ‘scale-up quickly’ approach to ensure we take advantage of opportunities quickly and capture and embed learnings, again, we’ll count on you.
We are happy to talk about flexible working, personal growth, and to promote a workplace where you can be yourself and achieve success based only on your merit.
About you
Comfortable working within a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment, you have excellent leadership, influencing and negotiation skills and a proven ability to manage, motivate and develop others. What’s more, you’re highly collaborative, flexible, diplomatic and assertive, with the confidence to lead and embed change and bring people with you on a journey. You’re not afraid to take risks either. Indeed, you know how to calculate risk effectively. You also have a keen interest in keeping ahead of emerging trends and horizon scanning to identify potential opportunities. A growth mindset, with a focus on continual improvement, is also required, as is experience of working in a matrix management environment where you have had responsibility for cross-organisational objectives, with an understanding of agile working methods or experience of working in sprints useful.
Benefits
We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.
Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
