Do you have significant experience of product and service design and/or development, plus a solid understanding of lean and agile methodologies (training and/or experience in Scrum would be great)? Then join Shelter as an Interim Head of Digital Experience and you could soon be playing a big part in helping us to restructure our Digital team to better meet future challenges.
About Shelter
A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.
At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.
We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.
About the team
Our Digital team plays a key role by doing exciting creative work, product development and service design work that affects our advice services, our campaigns and our fundraising. The team are digital and creative leaders, collaborating across Shelter to deliver first-class design, content, products and services, in an agile, iterative and data-driven manner. This is your chance to join us on an interim basis at a transitional moment for the team as we look at our focus, structure and ways of working in response to an ambitious organisational strategy.
About the role
Working alongside an interim Head of Digital, we’ll look to you to lead and support the central digital team through this exciting time of change. Specifically, you’ll be responsible for managing the digital design, development and analytics sub-teams that work across five cross-functional product teams. You’ll also get to collaborate with other key leaders in the directorate, as well as stakeholders across the wider organisation, in order to constructively feed into, and support, change work. Because we’re going to be implementing a directorate restructure to better align our work with a new strategic direction for Shelter, the responsibilities and reporting lines may change along the way, but one thing’s for sure – you won’t be short of interest, variety and challenge.
We are happy to talk about flexible working, personal growth, and to promote a workplace where you can be yourself and achieve success based only on your merit.
About you
Committed to digital best practice and the continual improvement of processes and outcomes, you have proven experience of managing people, projects and budgets. What’s more, you’re used to coaching, mentoring and developing teams of digital professionals with different specialisms, and at different levels. Researching, designing and/or developing products/services/ campaigns that deliver business and user value comes naturally to you too. So does developing, improving and facilitating quality standards, processes and guidelines to ensure quality, efficiency and brand integrity across a range of digital channels. Comfortable building and sustaining strong relationships with colleagues at all levels, as well as external stakeholders/suppliers, your flair for problem-solving should include experience of managing technical complexity and interdependencies.
Benefits
We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave (pro rata), enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.
Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
