Senior Product Owner – Growth & Data Science

Trainline is an innovative, tech business with a mission to make travel as simple, seamless and affordable as possible. We’re proud to be Europe’s leading independent train and coach platform and rank among the highest-rated travel and ticketing apps globally. Today, we offer our customers travel to thousands of destinations in and across 36 countries in Europe and beyond. That’s more than £2.3 billion in ticket sales annually, and over 70 million visits to our apps and websites each month.

Our culture is central to our success. We’re driven to sustain our phenomenal growth from recent years, and this means we’re always working closely and collaboratively to turn our ideas into reality. It’s this sense of pace, innovating and improving pretty much everything we do, that makes Trainline so exciting and unique – we truly believe our work has a genuine impact and will change travel for the better.

To support our ambitious commercial goals, we’re expanding our world-class Product division, led by Jonathon Moore (a Product leader in Digital & Technology) to drive the next stage of our development. In this newly created role, you’ll be working in an agile, mission-based growth squad alongside Data Scientists, Marketers, Product Researchers, Designers and Usability Analysts to help us revolutionise the travel experience and develop a market leading product and features. The goals are ambitious and the mandate is clear – to make travel more personal.

We are seeking an experienced Product Manager with a very strong growth mindset to join our new (and rapidly expanding) Growth Team. This is a new role requiring a new skill set. It’s entirely possible you’ll currently be working as a Data Scientist (or have very strong data inclinations). Alternatively, you may be a product professional considering a move into Data Science. You may just be wondering why you can’t combine your data and product skillsets into one focused role. If so – read on.

The Senior Product Manager – Data Science & Growth will be responsible for discovering, optimizing and executing all customer on-boarding strategies to achieve rapid, transformative and habit-forming usage. Activation is one of the key areas of the customer journey across the UK & international region at the core of which lies a passion to build a truly inspirational, personalised experience…and that’s where you come in. Working alongside an industry-leading team, you’ll be tasked with deeply understanding customer behaviours and motivations creating those ‘ah ha’ moments for new customers that will weave our app into their day-to-day lives and thus drive strong incremental growth (visits and transactions) across all channels.

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Using data and strong “test and learn” processes to discover and define solutions that achieve our growth outcomes
  • Leading the product execution of all on-boarding requirements to achieve consistent, repeatable, data-driven wins
  • Defining and owning the product roadmap as it relates to on-boarding and activation
  • Being the voice of the customer, deeply understanding customer behaviour and using that to achieve maximum impact
  • Understanding the competitive landscape, the evolving market needs, and how those relate to the company mission and vision
  • Capable of presenting to and influencing senior executives and investors with finesse
  • Being an active leader within the product organization, helping to install a world class product process that achieves rapid incremental value

This is a truly career defining role for someone passionate about product management looking for an opportunity to disrupt and define a product that will change the way people travel impacting millions of people every day.

Experience

We’re looking for creative big thinkers with small egos to achieve our ambitious plans. Most importantly, you’ll need to be a broad Product expert with a strong commercial track record in a fast paced, digital, consumer-focused business, who wants to work in a fully autonomous environment. You’ll have previously helped to build businesses and will be well versed in growth stories and tactics (you’re probably a fan of Brian Balfore).

This role requires an impressive ability to work with data (and Data Science), dissecting and understanding customer behaviour, performing output-oriented analysis, and integrating world-class MVT and A/B test methodologies. In addition, you’ll bring a robust balance of quantitative and qualitative skills as well as a background of working with rapid, iterative “discovery-based” design and development processes.

Your great Product credentials go without saying, and you’ll understand that Product teams fail as many times as they succeed albeit you’re capable of getting to the root of these challenges. You’ll be an impressive communicator with superior stakeholder management skills.
