Elsevier is looking for a Product Manager who can bring their passion for product management to help academic researchers to be successful in building their research knowledge. Mendeley Reference Manager has over 10 million registered academic researcher users in more than 150 countries worldwide. They love Mendeley because it helps them capture, store, organise and cite their knowledge. Our vison is to become the most trusted and popular reference manager in the market, and we’re investing heavily in the product to help us get there.

This role is responsible for developing the citation use cases in the reference manager across desktop, web and mobile clients. Researchers have to cite works in journal articles they are writing  and for funding applications and we want a someone as passionate about making this as simple as possible as we are. You will

  • Meet and talk with users every week to develop new ideas to solve researchers’ problems
  • Work with a fully staffed squad of software developers, working in agile methodologies, co-located with you in Shoreditch
  • Deploy latest web technologies, with a modular, easy-to-iterate tech stack, to test and release new features every two weeks
  • Have unparalled access to data and analytics, including Adobe web analytics and a full AB testing suite
  • Be able to draw on data and capabilities from across Elsevier’s global suite of researcher products and applications to further develop the product
  • Focus on outcomes not features, using lean methodologies
  • Work with and be supported by global, scalable teams of Elsevier who provide marketing, analytics, data science, machine learning specialists, infrastructure and customer support.

Your key responsibilities will be

  • Have a strong customer focus and leverage analytics and user research to better understand customer needs
  • Gather data from a variety of sources to fully understand the user problems you are trying to solve
  • Develop clear understanding of competitive products and strategy and how they influence customer decision
  • Ensure decisions are made on data
  • Translate the problem you are trying to solve into user stories and acceptance criteria
  • Work with UX, design, engineering and QA to deliver a product that truly meets our users’ needs
  • Work with Analytics to define key metrics to measure success
  • Work with Customer Support to keep our users happy

 

You will have:

  • 2-4 years of product management experience working with web technologies and apps
  • Experience of working hands-on with technology teams, providing vision, clarity and motivation to developers
  • Your eye on the commercial big picture, with enthusiasm for the execution detail
  • A focus on KPIs and evidence of having made hard, data-driven decisions
  • A collaborative and positive attitude, making you a great team player
  • High energy, and an action-oriented style
  • Evidence of delivering major product improvements, going from product inception to successful delivery
  • A methodical approach to problem solving, always working to reduce ambiguity and complexity
