Product Manager

Full-Time Canada (Remote) Salary: $90,000 - $110,000 Closes: 2021-12-15

About Code for Canada
Code for Canada is a national nonprofit that enables governments to deliver better digital services and empowers communities to solve civic challenges. We connect residents, government innovators and civic technologists, so they can work together to build a better nation.

As part of our mission, we form cross-functional product teams made up of product managers, UX designers and developers and embed them on government projects. Not only are these collaborators helping build products and services, they’re also tasked with building digital capacity among their government partners.

The Collaboration
The Partner
Product team members will be working with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Canadian Firearms Program (CFP). The mission of the CFP is to enhance public safety by reducing the risk of harm resulting from the misuse of firearms. They’re responsible for developing the delivery of national firearm safety standards and supporting efforts to combat illicit firearms activity. The CFP is also responsible for continuous screening of individuals wishing to possess or acquire a firearm and businesses that manufacture, sell, possess, handle, display or store firearms.

The Project
The CFP needs your help to begin it’s digital journey. Product team members will be working closely with government partners to improve service delivery by helping to build client-facing digital channels in a user-centred and ethical way.

The Canadian Firearms Digital Services Solution initiative will create an accessible digital experience with greater transparency. A digital-first approach will provide the CFP with enhanced case management capabilities, and robust interfaces with operational systems to uphold public safety in a way that is modern, efficient, and effective.

This is your opportunity to not only prototype a digital solution, but also model new ways of working for public servants. The collaborator team will be modelling what progressive, multi-disciplinary, citizen-first service delivery can look like at the RCMP.

What you’ll do
You’ll be part of a small cross functional team (one developer, one designer, and one PM) to build a digital product that addresses a public service need

As a team, you’ll be responsible for all aspects of the product development process, and will coordinate closely with internal IT teams to ensure that the product is well-positioned for long-term sustainment after the completion of your contract

You’ll work shoulder to shoulder with public servants who are subject matter experts, both learning from them about their domain, and helping them understand the approaches, tools, and processes of digital teams
