Job Purpose
The Director of Data Strategy & Insights will be a key leader within the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) organization, responsible for transforming data into a strategic asset. This role will oversee the development of data-driven strategies that enhance product innovation, improve customer experiences, and drive business growth. This role will combine strategic leadership with hands-on management of data initiatives, driving the use of data to inform product development. The Director will oversee a small but focused team, including one or two junior team members, to deliver actionable insights and data-driven decision-making.

Data Strategy Development:Co-lead the vision and execution of the company’s data strategy, ensuring alignment with product and business objectives.
Create and implement a data strategy that supports product management and the data evolution and thought leadership of products in this space.Data-Driven Product Development: Guide the use of data to inform product roadmaps, prioritize features, and assess market opportunities.Hands-On Data Analysis: Directly engage in data analysis to uncover insights, identify trends, and inform product decisions, especially in the early stages as the team is growing.Operational Excellence: Implement best practices in data management, analytics, and reporting to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Product Management team.Team Leadership & Mentorship: Recruit, lead and develop a small team, including junior PMs and data analysts, ensuring they are aligned with the data strategy and are effectively contributing to product goals, ensuring the team is equipped to meet the DRB’s evolving needs.Executive Collaboration: Work closely with C-suite executives and senior leaders to leverage data insights in strategic planning and decision-making.OpCo Data Liaison: Responsible for maintaining a strong connection with Vontier’s data team and throughout the OpCos, ensuring consistent communication, sharing of best practices, and alignment on data initiatives.Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, R&D, and other stakeholders within DRB to integrate data into the product development process.Customer Insights: Leverage data to understand customer behaviors and needs, translating these insights into actionable product strategies.Market Intelligence: Utilize data to provide a deep understanding of market trends, competitive dynamics, and emerging opportunities.Innovation & Advanced Analytics: Drive the adoption of cutting-edge data technologies and methodologies to deliver innovative products and solutions.Performance Monitoring: Establish and track KPIs to measure product performance, customer satisfaction, and other critical metrics.Scalability: As the data function grows, build scalable processes for data management, analysis, and reporting.Compliance & Ethics: Ensure all data activities comply with industry regulations and ethical standards.Data Governance Committee: Establish a data governance committee to oversee data quality, security, and compliance across platforms, ensuring that data integration efforts meet industry standards and support business objectives.Regular travel to Akron required.
Integration Focus
Roadmap for Full Integration: Develop a long-term roadmap for the full integration of data across DRB and Invenco, identifying key milestones, resource needs, and potential challenges. This roadmap should be shared and co-owned by both DRB, Invenco and Vontier teams to ensure alignment and commitment.SUDS Integration: Lead the effort to integrate SUDS into the broader product and data strategy, working closely with both the Senior Director of Applications and the Junior PM assigned to SUDS & Applications.Dashboard Enhancement: Work on enhancing the Business Insights dashboards to provide more granular, actionable insights for both product and marketing teams, further strengthening the synergy between data and product management and provide thought leadership for DRB.Unified Data Strategy: Work with the Vontier data team to develop a unified data strategy that aligns with both DRB and Invenco’s needs. This strategy should focus on integrating data across platforms, particularly for payment and market segment solutions, ensuring consistency and maximizing the value of the data.Data Integration Projects: Identify specific projects that require close integration of data across DRB and Invenco platforms. (E.g., This could involve creating a centralized data repository or building APIs that allow seamless data exchange between systems.)Joint Innovation Initiatives: Initiate/lead joint innovation projects with Vontier, focusing on areas where data from both DRB and Invenco can be leveraged to develop new solutions or improve existing ones. This could involve predictive analytics, AI-driven insights, or advanced payment solutions.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The position works under general direction of the Vice President of Product Lifecycle Management exercising discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance in the department.
This position will manage a small team including junior PMs and data analysts, ensuring they are aligned with the data strategy and are effectively contributing to product goals, ensuring the team is equipped to meet the DRB’s evolving needs.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, or a related field preferred. Experience in related field will be considered in lieu of degree10+ years of experience in product management, or a related role, with a focus on data analytics or data science, in a product led organizationDemonstrated success in driving data strategy at scale and influencing executive decision-makingExperience in a leadership role, with the ability to mentor and develop junior team membersIn-depth knowledge of data analytics, machine learning, AI, and related technologies
Skill Sets
Ability to create and generate reports, track metrics, create presentationsKnowledgeable in MS Office (Excel, Word, Power Point)Strong business acumen with the ability to connect data insights to business outcomesProficiency in data visualization tools (Power BI), analytics platforms, APIs, relevant programming languages (e.g., SQL, Python) and large language modelsStrong leadership & communication skills with the ability to translate complex data insights into understandable and actionable business recommendationsAbility to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities with limited resources
