Then join Shelter Scotland as a Lead Digital Product Manager and you could soon be playing a key role at the heart of our Digital team.

About Shelter Scotland

A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet over a million people in Scotland struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.

At Shelter Scotland we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.

We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter Scotland and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.

About the team

Part of a busy Communications and Policy department, our Digital team is responsible for all of Shelter Scotland’s digital output, including producing content for Get Advice, which provides help and advice to over 900,000 people in Scotland each year. Disciplines in the team include front-end development, UX, content design and Service Design, with each individual helping to set the example in digital best practice, discovery and innovation.

About the role

Your challenge will be to lead on the planning, delivery, maintenance and optimisation of a variety of digital products for people who need our support, people seeking to campaign with us and people who want to donate to our cause.

We’ll also rely on you to develop and prioritise the team’s workload, act as an advocate for continuous improvement and look for opportunities to improve how the team works. Supporting and coaching colleagues around the organisation to develop a digital vision for their business area will be important too, as will translating challenges and opportunities into excellent digital solutions. Developing product visions, establishing meaningful metrics, capturing needs, ideas and requirements and verifying them with data and running workshops – all are aspects of a role that will also see you act as a point of contact for the digital team and collaborate with teams of specialists in marketing and creative roles.

About you
As well as an understanding of how user-focussed digital products and services can improve people’s lives, you have proven experience of agile planning using a range of tools and techniques. You’re also used to working with stakeholders of varying levels of digital literacy and advocating for a particular approach while building constructive relationships. Experience of product development, including facilitating ideation and scoping, is important too, as is the ability to use metrics, working against organisational strategic objectives and acting on user research to validate ideas and scope. Familiar with product-level planning, especially goal-oriented roadmaps and release plans, you’re comfortable working with cross-functional teams or collaborating with experts from other teams for a common aim. What’s more, you have some line management experience and are able to effectively communicate the principles of good digital practice and technical details of web development to technical and non-technical audiences alike.

A background within the not for profit sector, either as part of an in-house team or as a supplier, would be useful too, as would a relevant certification, ideally in an agile discipline such as Scrum or Lean Kanban, or knowledge of Waterfall methodology.

Benefits
We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.

Shelter Scotland helps over half a million people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help.
