About the Role
The Product Manager will work collaboratively with the Head of Product on the product strategy and roadmap for our energy systems modelling software. A key aspect of the role will be to drive usage of and engagement with the product.

The role also involves working with the Senior User Researcher, Head of Marketing, energy systems modellers, engagement analysis and domain experts across the business to make important product decisions and deliver best-in-class products for our users.

This job is perfect for a product manager who is a strategic thinker, detail orientated with product requirements and designs and has strong critical thinking skills. Product Owners that are interested in transitioning into a Product Manager role are welcome to apply.

An interest in sustainability, tech-for-good and a desire to work in a fast-moving, green-tech startup environment would be ideal.

Goals
Short-Term Goals for Product Manager – 6 months after joining

  • Deliver roadmap features for our main product the Model Builder
  • Develop a strategy to improve user on-boarding, engagement and product-led growth with the Head of Product for the product
  • Assess current competitor offerings and seek opportunities for differentiation
  • Work with the data teams to ensure the data dependencies for the software products are delivered on time

Long-Term Goals for Product Manager – 12 months after joining

  • Deliver roadmap features for our main product the Model Builder
  • Develop a strategy to improve user on-boarding, engagement and product-led growth with the Head of Product for the product
  • Assess current competitor offerings and seek opportunities for differentiation
  • Work with the data teams to ensure the data dependencies for the software products are delivered on time
  • Contribute the product vision and strategy
  • Implementation of new features and product initiatives to reach new users and new markets
  • Appraise new product ideas and develop appropriate strategies to implement new product ideas and initiatives, including potential changes to the existing product
  • Develop detailed needs and user personas with the Senior User Researcher and in-house domain experts to prioritise features in the product roadmap
  • Demonstrate new ideas and features to stakeholders, team members and users of the product

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Product and working closely with the Senior, User Research and Head of Marketing, the main function of this role is to be responsible for the execution of the model builder product. On a day-to-day basis you’ll be expected to lead on:

  • Full product lifecycle – drive the execution of all processes including market research, competitor analysis, planning, positioning, requirements, roadmap development and product launch
  • Product execution – translate product strategy into detailed requirements for prototyping and final development by engineering teams, acting as the product owner for the Platform team
  • Backlog refinement – develop and communicate the product goal, create and clearly communicate product backlog items and order the backlog to maximize business value.
  • Product usage and UX – develop user on-boarding and engagement strategies that include customer support and learning to ensure a high quality user experience, and reoccurring usage of the product, while tracking against key company KPIs
  • Prioritisation – weigh priorities and making trade-offs according to the needs and objectives of end users and stakeholders.
  • Sprint planning – maintain clarity around the product vision despite the changing and fast-paced nature of Agile product development.
  • Cross-functional collaboration – collaborate closely with engineering, production, marketing, and sales teams in the development, QA, and release of product, ensuring dependencies are planned for and managed
  • Analytics and reporting – create Mixpanel reports and dashboards, analyse data for user behaviour and make recommendations for improving the product
  • Documentation – write documentation and keep the TransitionZero documentation site up to date for developer users

About You
You are a Product Manager or Product Owner, with at least 2 years of experience working at a startup on B2B SaaS products. You are confident with products that have complex user journeys and that are data heavy.

You are interested in using your skills to build a first-of-its-kind energy systems modelling platform. You take a highly collaborative approach to your work, make time for others, and promote a no-blame culture when things break. You are interested in continued learning and growth, are open to asking questions, and will bring your ideas to the wider team. You have a passion for sustainability and energy transition and want to use your technical skills for social good in a quickly growing green-tech company.

While we are a rapidly growing tech startup, we are also a non-profit, so a high level of adaptability and willingness to approach challenges with creativity and curiosity is essential.

Stage 2 – Practical interview and assessment – 60 minute in-person or Zoom call, including a 15 minute pre-prepared presentation
